Mary-Lynette was having a hard time coming up with things to say to Poppy. She wasn’t usually so awkward in social situations like this. Perhaps it was because Poppy was a good friend of Daniel’s and Mary and Daniel were still getting their grounds as a couple. She bit her lip, trying to find something to say that didn’t make her sound like a complete dolt. Thankfully, Poppy spoke first. “Oh! No not yet.” Mary smiled looking to the ground. “But he’s my date so he better not bail on me.” She glanced up at Poppy. “You look very pretty Poppy. You really outdid yourself with that costume.” Mary nodded. She swayed slightly and tapped her fingers on her cup. “Hey, um, how well do you know Daniel? If you don’t mind me asking…” She gave a hopefully smile to Poppy. “I just want to learn more about him you know?” Mary found a chair against the wall and sat down, motioning for Poppy to sit in the chair besides her.
Heat rose to Poppy’s cheeks like they always did when she was complimented. It seemed to mean even more since it was coming from someone she respected; Daniel talked to highly of her it was hard not to adore Mary already. “Thank you!” she squealed, a charming smiled parting her defined lips. “Oh, you look adorable as well, Mary! I love the idea, it’s so precious!” Poppy found it easy to get along with others, but she could also tell Mary was feeling nervous. Trying her best to soothe her nerves, Poppy did her best to continue with the conversation, answering any question she had. “Oh, I know Danny pretty well, if I might say so. I’m not sure why, I suppose we just clicked right away.” With a twinkled in her eye, Poppy giggled raising her eyebrows. “That’s so cute! I would love to answer any questions you might have. You should know, he is quite smitten with you, Mary.” Eager to carry on, Poppy scurried over to the chair beside it pretty brunette and tilted her body in her direction.
